70 Prayer Points to Forgive Others and Free yourself

Matthew 18:21–35

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

One day, Peter came to Jesus and asked:

“Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18:21–22)

To explain this, Jesus told a parable:

A king decided to settle accounts with his servants. One servant owed him ten thousand talents (an enormous debt). Since he couldn’t pay, the king ordered that he, his family, and all he owned be sold to repay the debt. The servant fell to his knees and begged for mercy.

The king took pity on him, canceled the debt, and let him go.

But then, that same servant went out and found a fellow servant who owed him a hundred denarii (a very small amount compared to what he had owed). He grabbed him and demanded payment. The fellow servant begged for time to repay, just like he had, but he refused and had him thrown into prison.

Other servants saw this and were deeply troubled. They told the king, who summoned the servant and said:

“You wicked servant! I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?” (Matthew 18:32–33)

In anger, the king handed him over to be punished until he repaid all he owed.

Jesus concluded:

“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” (Matthew 18:35)
